Cet ouvrage explore les formes de luttes initiées au sein de l’école au cours des 150 dernières années. Les auteurs s’interrogent d’abord sur l’ambivalence du statut de fonctionnaire d’Etat: les enseignants sont-ils voués à l’institution qui les paie ou aux enfants dont ils ont la charge? L’école est-elle une structure de contrôle ou d’émancipation? Ils abordent deux formes de résistance: pédagogique (l’éducateur refuse de transmettre un contenu ou une méthode, à l’instar du mouvement des «désobéisseurs»); puis politique (les personnels protègent les enfants, juifs hier, sans papiers aujourd’hui; s’engagent aux côtés des maquisards, des indépendantistes, etc.). Ils questionnent finalement l’«effroyable échec de l’école publique à corriger l’injustice sociale». Professeur de français en collège depuis 1995, Grégory Chambat est l'auteur de plusieurs ouvrages chez Libertalia (L'École des barricades; L'École des réac-publicains; Pédagogie et Révolution).
